Dutch Apple Pie from my friend

Let me first say, I have never made a pie! I am not really a baker, baking requires precise measuring and following directions way more than what keeps my attention! But, alas, I try!

I got an apple pie recipe from my friend Nicole and followed it pretty closely but made a few tweaks along the way. They say to always make the recipe according to directions the first time and then make changes.. But I don't listen to that either.. It's always an experiment!!

Lets get started with the crust - so much easier than I ever could have imagined!

Pie Crust
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
5 tbl water
1/2 cup shortening or butter ( I used butter)

Put all ingredients into the food processor and pulse until it comes together and forms a ball. Chill and roll out to fit pan. Trim edges and crimp with your fingers.

Apple Pie Filling
5 1/2 cups sliced apples
1 tbl orange juice (1/2 fresh orange) and add a little zest too if your using fresh
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar (not packed)
3 tbl flour
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1 tap vanilla extract

Place all ingredients in a large bowl and toss until combined.

Spoon into pie pan on top of crust.

Crumb topping
3/4 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup oats

Mix ingredients in food processor and top the apple mixture.

Bake at 375 for 50 minutes and truly enjoy!!
